But given so little to work with it sounds like your next call is to Dell to arrange for repair.

Red brownish spots on the screen?

I just noticed I have 3 red brownish spots on my screen with varying size and irregular shape, 2 as big as a grain of rice, and 1 as big as a pencil(about an inch long). I'm not sure if it is always there, but it only become visible when the screen is on and dark colors are displayed around that area. Most visible when it's displaying pure black.

Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it?

A new screen. Could be from heat, pressure, or faulty backlight.

yes that sounds like something similar to DK's ideas rather than a dead pixel.

It looks like it is contact Dell time for return/replacement.

Reply 3 : Red brownish spots on the screen?

^ Yup, just so you didn't get what DK and mark said

Contact Dell and get a new screen fitted.

Reply 4 : Red brownish spots on the screen?

This is a replacement I bought to swap out the crappy 720p stock screen.

Not sure if it happened before I got it, or if I accidentally damaged it during swapping, but either way, I'm not going to go through the hassle of replacing it. The spots are there but barely visible without paying close attention.

Reply 5 : Red brownish spots on the screen?

I'm pretty sure LG provides their own warranty on that panel. You'd have to contact them for a replacement if you wanted to get one.

asus g53sw

same exact specs as listed above but the new 2nd gen intel i7 2630qm

now my question being, is the performance going to be a great enough difference between the two cpu's that i should wait for the sandy bridge?

I don't need the laptop right atm but i would like to make my purchase soon so i can get back to playing my games

Reply 1 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

Well im sure this will be moved to the Gaming SubForum soon

lol anyways yes theres a decent difference between say the 740 and 2630, however in terms of gaming* performance, no, youll be bottlenecked by the GPU. Unless you play big RTS games like me (not SCII, something more like SupCom) or something else more CPU demanding, gaming performance should be about the same either way.

Although it seems you arent in immediate need of a laptop so if thats the case you might as well wait for the SW version. The sandy-bridge can hit higher turbo speeds in quad mode, has a clock for clock advantage, and will give better battery life.

Ugh, not sure if ive helped good luck on your choice, cant go wrong either way to be honest.

Reply 2 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

If it was me, I would Get the cheaper one. Reason being is that in the future the 460m will be the bottleneck, neither of the Processors will be.

You won't notice much of a difference between the 2 processors with gaming.

SC2 or any other rts will benefit from the faster processor. The increase will be marginal as the gpu won't be able to keep up with the cpu if it ever gets bogged down that far.

Its all about how much your willing to spend.

Edit:

If you don't need one right now maybe wait for the 480m or 485m to come down in price.

Reply 3 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

yes, id personally love to the see 480 or 485 come down in price, that being said i dont think they will drop soon enough unless the new nvidias and ati's get launched

Reply 4 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

True...

You really can't go wrong with either of them at that price range. battery life should be about the same as their both 45watt. In any case battery will probably be around an hour with both models.

Reply 5 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

battery life isnt an issue, i just need something reasonably cheap in 1200-1300 price range i can play sc2 with good fps

Reply 6 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

@Scion

They both max at 45watts, that doesnt mean they are always at that.

The sandy uses the 32nm process vs the clarksfield 45nm, and therefore should run cooler and have better battery life, afaik.

And Blizzard (as always) did well to optimize SCII, so unless you play lots of custom games (multiplayer custom, not skirmish) that have rediculous numbers of units, the sandy wont give you a boost in that game. Only bigger, (and far worse cpu optimized lol) rts games like SupCom with 1000s of units or games like DragonAge (I think, Chastity can chime in here if im wrong ) will benefit from the additional CPU power...

I agree with Scion about the "go with the cheaper one" though otherwise youll always be waiting

Reply 7 : asus g53jw vs asus g53sw

i only plan to 1v1 or 2v2, if i did play custom games it would be something more like an aots im not a fan of mass units, if the cpu did become a problem i could upgrade it but my biggest worry is the gtx 460m and how well it will perform over the next few years

ahh agreed, forgot about the 32nm and the the IGP in the CPU so yeah it will probably be better on battery.

also one last question, is the gpu upgradeable or soldered on the g53jw-a1?

G73JH BIOS fail. dead motherboard?

just got my g73jh last night..but i bricked it and it doesn't turn on anymore.

I checked out how to flash the bios with a usb. since i didn't have one i used an sd card. pressed esc and tried to find it.

couldn't be read. but i saw the easyflash program!

so i did a reboot. made a file on my desktop. and accessed the file through easyflash. erased current bios, installed current bios "successfully", shut down after 2 seconds, then nothing. :| no power. no nothing. took off adapter and battery and did a 10 second hold on the power button. slapped the battery on.

the fans spun! but only for a second. then nothing. again :|

already brought it to the best local service center for asus(in the Philippines). since it was a refurb bought in bestbuy, i let them rechecked if it was still under warranty and it was.

now with the questions.

is there a way to revive my machine? or do i have no other choice but to bring it to a service center? will i have to pay for the motherboard (if it's the motherboard that's broken)? and one thread said that easyflash was the safest of 3 ways to flash a bios. :P i mixed that procedure with the bios that i got from Chastity. and read in another thread that it's okay to access the bios file from the hard drive.

then read on another thread (using my relative's laptop) that it's possible to brick your lappy by doing so.

should've waited and bought a usb. :|

and will the warranty still work even if i bought it from the previous owner? :P

* I may have asked this through other threads and messaged this to moderators ( panic mode.lol) and Budding told me to just make a thread for it.

and if i have a question, should i make a thread for it? or just go ahead and post it in lounges and the thread of that specific laptop? :P

Reply 1 : G73JH BIOS fail. dead motherboard?

Bummer with your new machine.

This is a failed BIOS flash, and there is no way to recover - it has to be reset by Asus tech support ... call and set up RMA or take it to service center.

The problem does not require a motherboard replacement, just a BIOS reset, but has to be done by factory techs.

Post any new question in a new thread, else add it to the correct existing one

Rule to novice users - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. And if you aren't sure of what you're doing, esp when the consequences can be dire, don't try and adapt it or mix the protocols from somewhere else.

Whew! Sent it hours ago. So that means i could get it tomorrow!

Hooray for bios reset!

Lesson learned. but i hope to see the new Asus laptops with the latest drivers and bios and stuff so we don't need to do these things :P

Actually it is kinda broke. I sorta tested how good does it rate on the windows rating benchmark thing. i got BSOD, some cubes things, then it had an error that something failed but recovered. then i scored a very dissapointing 2.0 )

LOL I told them that i probably broke the motherboard thru bios flashing. They just gave me a pull-out form and to call them on tuesday/wednesday.

I'll definitely give them a ring tomorrow morning that it might need a bios reset.

Yeah, Maybe it's not that easy to do it or we need a special adapter or something that's why there is no released fix for that. If it was just easy, Maybe Asus would even give us steps to do that because it will save them time and money.

I was hoping ClearSkies would give an answer but drats! logged off. maybe in a few hours i'd get an answer.

Reply 8 : G73JH BIOS fail. dead motherboard?

Say what now? I think ClearSkies meant a BIOS reflash.

You can reset your BIOS settings by removing the CMOS battery, or poking the reset button.

If you've suffered a bad flash, you probably need ASUS to reflash your BIOS chip, unless you have access to an EEPROM programmer.

Samsung SRD-830D 8 channel DVR

I recently had this DVR installed along with some security cameras. I'm getting close to the hard drive capacity (368 GB used out of 499 GB). There are some recorded events that I'd like to save, but I can't find any info in the instruction manual that explains how to copy the events onto a DVD. Can anyone walk me through it? Thanks.

WHITE DOT ISSUE - DLP HLT5676SX - Making Me Pay?

Hi All,

My screen looks like a blizzard only after 3yrs of owning my $1300 DLP. It looks like, reading a thread in this forum, that Samsung was promising to replace a defective chip in these DLP sets, but when I called support, they told me mine is "not on the list" so I have to pay to have it fixed.

Anyone have the full list?

...about to switch to LG for life!

I recently did a on-line Service Request with details about the white dot issue that I am now having and also included the shadow effect issue that has a class action case already for that which I found out while searching different forums. I did get the automated email with my Ticket Number and I got a call from the repair shop but when I started hearing price quotes I then asked if she has spoken to samsung or heard anything from them about the issue and it being covered and she said no nothing was said from samsung. Here is my info

The repair shop in my area (and responsible for my ticket #) called me today and told me that Samsung has been covering 99% of the white dot issues her company is doing. She was trying to call Samsung to get things straightened out for me as well. She said if they don't cover it "we'd be looking at a $500 service call".

Reply 7 : WHITE DOT ISSUE - DLP HLT5676SX - Making Me Pay?

My parents T.V have the EXACT same problem. The T.V was brought from Circuit City around 2007-2008 (they can't quite remember). They said the first white dot appeared around 1 1/2 years ago, and new ones been emerging ever since. I don't live near my parents, and when I came to visit I was shocked at how horrible the T.V looked! My parents are older, and they can't speak English so they didn't know who to call about the problem. So I called an repair guy and told him the problems I was having, and immediately he asked if I had an Samsung DLP. He then went on to tell me that he been getting a lot of calls about over the past years and that Samsung had an recall on it, and to call Samsung about it.

I called Samsung, they took my model and S/N and then told me that it was NOT covered. She told me that however it might be added later on, because they been adding other models as well. I asked how would I know if they added my model, and she said if it was not registered then I would have to call them every now and then.

This is ridiculous. I know I don't have time to call them all the time, and I'm sure others will agree. What exactly is the problem that they have to wait slowly to add other models? I have looked online and seen NUMEROUS people having the same problem with the same T.V. Even the HL-T5076S and HL-T5676S was accepted, but my HL-T6176S was not. What is the difference in these T.Vs? Aren't they the same with the exception of one being bigger than the other?

I am absolutely shocked at Samsung's lack of responsibility, and now I question the quality of their products. I don't even want to get started on how many times my parents had to change their lamps despite the fact that they rarely watch T.V.

If anyone else has or know someone who has an HL-T6176S, and did qualify for the free repair please let me know. Thank you very much.

Well my local electronics service center (that was assigned based on my ticket) called and told me THEY were escalating my ticket too as they said they have been fixing these left and right and that Samsung IS covering it for this issue.

They ordered the new chip, it came in within three days, they came out and installed it in less than 20mins. FIXED.

Samsung DID cover mine. You may want to get a ticket going and see who your local service center is and see if THEY can escalate the ticket. David: It appears that something else inside the unit might be causing the problem. The unit needs to be examined by an authorized service technician to get it serviced to fix the issue.

David: As we have done all the possible troubleshooting steps, a physical diagnosis is necessary to determine the exact defective part on your device.

David: For these kind of issues, we recommend you file a service request on this issue, while filing online service request you'll get complete information about the nearest service center details, so you can contact the service center to arrange a in home service for your unit.

Visitor: People with the same model tvs are getting their DMD chips replaced without charge even after the warranty have expired, but when i call i have to pay off my own pocket to about a third of the cost of the tv

David: No, this is not an effected model.

David: So you can not get a free service for this unit.

Visitor: the tv is not the problem, the faulty DMD chip in the motherboard are causing these white dots

Visitor: Do you have an Executive service center number i can call?

Visitor: my tv is less than 3 years old, what is the lifespan of Samsung dlp's?

David: I will understand your point.

David: Did you register the unit online?

Samsung rep came and fixed my TV at no charge. Got a call from Executive level customer service approving for a rep to come and verify that i have the white dots issue. Rep ordered the part and took 5 days to get here. Now it is like new. My model was not on the list, but ask the customer rep to attach a complaint on your trouble ticket. Understand customer rep has only the basic knowledge in troubleshooting, but don't get frustrated with them for the lack of training. Problem with Speedstep on Laptop - Lenovo L412

Hey guys, I own a Lenovo L412, just purchased two weeks ago, with an i-3 370m processor. Initially, the laptop was installed with W7 Pro 32bit, and speedstep worked perfectly fine, where when the load was high, it would show 2.4MHz running, and if low power around 796MHz, it would range between there. However, I wanted an upgrade to Pro 64bit, so I did a clean install, installed all the normal Windows Updates, and now speedstep does not seem to be working, it is always kept at a constan 2.4MHz, running at the top frequency. I have All Meter CPU and CPUZ for monitoring, this has been going on since I did the full reinstall of the OS. I have made changes to the BIOS, and nothing gets the Speedstep to work. I have tried all power plans, even changing the advanced setting, multiple things with battery in and on AC, no avail. What can I do? I mean it shows no problems yet, but I find it a problem, when constantly running at full 2.4MHz. In CPUZ, the Bus Speed shows 133.0MHz w/ Multiplier being 18.

I fresh installed from a digital download copy, and used the MS Store program to make a bootable USB.

Here is a screen shot of what I am talking about:

ImageShack - Online Photo and Video Hosting

It always stays at that frequency, not changing no matter what power plan I use.

I have already contacted Lenovo, and they say that I would need to purchase their "Lenovo Upgrade Discs", is there anyway for me to do it without a hitch like this, without having to shell out $60-70? Or anyway to fix this issue?

Did you already download and install the Power Management driver? If you already have, then try re-install them over what is currently installed.
